How to set a banjo for best sound
A is the nut of the banjo.
B is the twelfth fret. C is the bridge. The distance of A to B should be the same as B to C. This will give you the correct harmonics and this very rarely alters unless the banjo has some quirk. The angle of the strings from tail piece to bridge should be in between 13 and 15 degrees (this will give the most efficient vibration through the bridge). On the bridge it self the notches for the strings should not be cut slots. These notches should be sharp angled triangular shape. Once the bridge is fitted its quite simple to change to other types ie: bone and wood, horn and various two leg or three leg systems. Try different bridges to get the sound you need. |
